  1. Hi Jeff,

    Ref Quadricep Tendon Rupture

I just thought I’d drop you a quick email thanking you for your blog on your Quadricep tendon injury.

I live in Nottingham, England and on 3rd July 2016 I completely ruptured my quad tendon.

Following a 5 day 250 mile cycle ride around northern England I decided to get off my cycle to take in a coastal view. A completely innocuous lush piece of grass was the perpetrator of the rupture , a slight quick slip and I was down like a sniper had shot me. Who’d of thought that after 250 miles of cycling some grass on a coastal footpath would take me down?

Anyway I had surgery two weeks ago , a success I’ve been told (The morphine was fab by the way) and a long recovery awaits.

I wanted to thank you as so much of what you said is comparable to my accident and initial stages of recovery and your recovery has inspired me and gave me hope that albeit its gunna be a while I will walk again. Obviously I have complete perspective, but as you know it’s a ball ache and I’ve earned the right for a little self pity now and then.

I’ve become a little obsessed with the Quadricep tendon and sportsmen and women who may of suffered the same fate. Unfortunately just a couple of American wrestlers to my knowledge. The endless Googling led me to your page which I will follow with interest.

    Thanks again and best wishes
    Luke

  2. Hey Luke,

Glad to hear you are on the mend, and thanks for the kind words. Man, I don’t envy you; once is one time to many! But I can say — I’m living proof — you can make a full recovery, eventually; it will take months or even a year though, and then some.

God, I was just walking down memory lane; hard to believe that was five years ago this Christmas. Nowadays I don’t even think about my quadriceps tendon, except in passing thought once in a great while. Even my scar is just a long thin white mark — you probably wouldn’t even notice it unless I remarked on it.

So yes, there is light at the end of the tunnel … albeit a really frigging long tunnel.

    Please keep me apprised.

    Jeff
